The Pics Are In

And I'm not thrilled.

I was hoping to see some more noticable change from my December '05 photos, but the difference was minimal. Becky sees more change in my pics, and I see more change in hers.

The one thing I have to realize is that I'm starting off at 360 pounds, so losing 30 won't be as noticable as if I were starting at 300. That said, my February photos should show some more obvious change, as I should be in the 40 pound loss range by then.

As for my weight today, I weighed at 328, bringing my 5-day average to 329.2. So, I'm still heading in the right direction.

Now, the bad news.

Today is a planned gorge day. Our kids are heading to Grandmom and Granddad's for the night, and Beck and I are heading to local burger joint called Red Robin, where we'll be spending a gift card we received for Christmas. We will not be holding back. We'll eat anything we want - hamburger, fries, shake - but for this meal only, then it's back on the wagon.

Just pray that we don't enjoy it so much that we stay there and spend hours downing everything they'll put on our tables.

Having said this, it's important to note that Beck and I will be heading to the gym at our clubhouse tonight to work as much of our lunch off as is humanly possible.

Is it bad to take a meal off?

I wouldn't suggest it, but we're going to do it, anyway.

I think entirely depriving yourself is the worst thing that you could do. You have to be human from time to time. Eat light tonight and I thrust you and Beck to be reasonable at Red Robin. Anyway, a night without the kids is cause for celebration ;-)

P.S. What about replacing that shake with a diet cola?

Woah... good luck. Red Robin is my favorite Burger joint. They make the best burgers. Their shakes are awesome and they have bottomless french fries.

Whatever happens, STAY ON TRACK. A meal like that can really make you feel bad the next day, but a workout can surely turn it around :)

The Abs diet, and Josh the Destroyer both say that a "cheat meal" is a *MUST* .. not a weakness.

The body, according to the book and trainer, will be fooled by the food, and will think that there is NO shortage of food, and will continue at a high rate of burning. In fact, Josh told me that it is very common to *LOSE* weight the next day after the cheat meal.

In Josh's words.. "the cheat meal, hell.. eat an ENTIRE large pizza".

Enjoy it.

And then get back to work. One meal doesn't hurt anybody. Don't feel bad for it, because you've earned it. Remember.. we're learning a new lifestyle, not a 'diet'. Are you *REALLY* going to go your entire life without eating a big fattening meal?

Enjoy it, you two. You've definitely earned it.

A cheat meal is fine as long as you get right back on track. For those of us that have problems turning a cheat meal into a cheat week it's not so good.

Red Robin does have great burgers. Their strawberry lemonade is great too....I've not had their shakes. Enjoy!!

I personally have a very different opinion about "cheat meals".

Right off the bat, by calling it a "cheat", you are acknowledging that your "healthy" way of eating really isn't what you want to do, and it's a temporary regimen. The "cheat" meal represents how you really want to eat.

Also, at this point I've adjusted to different, more subtle flavors and have adopted them as my preference. It's gotten to the point where I crave different, healthier foods. I feel like the longer I go without all my old, bad foods, the less I miss them.

I'm really enjoying my healthy food. Do I have "cheat" meals? Sure, but I'm still thinking about what I'm eating. About once a week I go out to dinner with friends and get something that's delicious and nutritious. Maybe it's a little more than I should have, or a little more saturated fat, or some extra carbs, but still reasonable.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to preach. Go out, have fun, but think about it!

Obviously one meal doesn't matter much. Just make sure you're examining your motivations :) Part of really adopting a lifelong healthy lifestyle is that gradually you really won't want those foods.

Enjoy :)

Billy, I like the way that you think. I think you've got a good point in that by simply calling it a 'cheat', it recognizes that you're not complete with the life transformation yet.

But I think that's ok. If we didn't crave these foods right now, we wouldn't be in the situations we are. I can only speak for myself, but I've yet to be able to get to the point where you are. I still have these raging urges to binge eat, and I honestly feel like it's an addiction I'll fight my entire life. This blog, to me, is my determination to keep fighting it.

I hope that one of these days, I'll cure myself of it and be able to have your outlook, but sadly.. I'm not there yet.

I didn't mean for it to sound like I'm perfect or anything... far from it! Asid from one time, I don't really crave the bad food anymore. The one time is: When I'm out to lunch with coworkers or something, and I order, say, a tuna steak, and someone else orders a giant, delicious-looking cheeseburger. When they bring it out, I drool. But once i dig into my tuna steak, I'm ok.

Dammit you guys- now I'm thinking about cheeseburgers!

First-

It was great. Mouth-watering.

Second-

Let's not call it a cheat meal, let's call it a bonus meal, or a reward meal for us kicking our asses. We know it's way outside of our new lifestyle, but it tastes good, so it's a rare treat.

Back on the hourse today - Zone bars and Bran flakes!

Third-

Go see Rocky Balboa. Now. It was a perfect Rocky movie.

On the Rocky note, I WILL be running up the Art Museum steps when I reach my goal ;)
